By 1543 the suburb of Clausen, Münster Abbey and Luxembourg castle were all in shambles. From 1563 onward Mansfeld got hold of land in Clausen and on the surrounding hillocks (Fetschenhof, Weimershof). This gave rise to the creation of the “La Fontaine” estate, conceived as an imposing private retreat. Today’s “Brasserie Mansfeld” originally stood as the main gatehouse entrance to the stately mansion.
