Mansfeld’s deer park partly took over a medieval hunting enclosure of the Counts of Luxembourg. The new park was fenced off by stone walls and provided vital conditions for gamekeeping, such as thickets, clearings, rocks and water supply. Hunting in the grand manner, enlivened by the barking of dogs, the sound of horns and deer calls, as well as the ensuing festive banquets, were all the rage with court society in Renaissance times.
