The governor’s palace was the official seat of the governors of the Duchy of Luxembourg from 1565 to 1795. Following several adaptations the building became the Palace of Justice (1795-2008). It is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ever since 2017. Mansfeld originally acquired the building for the Spanish crown and subsequently extended it. At the time, there was a direct visual link between the official seat of the governor in the upper town and his more private “villa suburbana” down in the valley
