St. Margaret’s hospice was originally part of the former gatehouse building between Pfaffental and Clausen. It was built by the end of the 16th century, to replace the “Cluse” – a medieval women’s priory that was destroyed for the erection of Mansfeld’s stately mansion. A bridge and a dog kennel, which already stood there by the 15th century as part of the medieval deer park, were integrated into the building complex. Mansfeld also canalized the natural course of the river Alzette, created a large pond and established a lime alley on top of the embankment
