Gëlle Fra

The Luxembourg’s Golden Lady ‘’Gëlle Fra’’, stands in the heart of Luxembourg City as a symbol of resilience and pride and holds a laurel wreath in her hand. During World War II, German forces toppled her, breaking her neck and feet in an attempt to crush Luxembourg’s defiance.

However, a student saved her big toe, a powerful symbol of hope. Parts of the statue were hidden for protection, though its location was forgotten for decades. In 1981, fragments were rediscovered, and by 1985, the statue was fully restored.

Today, the golden Lady continues to embody Luxembourg’s enduring spirit, standing tall as a beacon of strength and hope.
